Schools of Sinkunia

Making a Future in Sierra Leone

2009 Newsletter (Continued)

IV: Future Goals. Our primary goal is to complete the construction project and insure that the scholarship and lunch program are financially sustainable. As we gain confidence that these projects are financially secure we will look toward adding new goals. The Needs Assessment completed this summer identified several possible areas of future focus. Since Sinkunia is a very isolated community and creating incentives to bring the best teachers is a challenge, a crucial future challenge will be to continue attracting skilled teachers to the school.

Also, there is a need to furnish the classrooms with sufficient desks and chairs so all students can sit and work. The schools lack basic educational materials, including textbooks and preparing students for success the modern world will require them to develop skills in computer use. Building recreational resources, such as a basketball and/or soccer field for the school is also a future need.

Keep in mind that Sinkunia has neither electricity nor running water. What we consider basic essentials represent high dreams and aspirations for the people of Sinkunia. So, once the major construction project is completed we hope to begin work on these other important tasks. Finding needs to fulfill is never difficult in Sierra Leone. Your generosity will always be greatly appreciated and long remembered.
